How do you judge the importance of something? How do you know the value of what you do or say? Often we judge the importance of our words and actions based on the impact they have on others. Did they cry? Smile? Laugh? Exclaim in disgust? The impact it had demonstrates the importance of the word or action.
Sometimes it can feel like all the little things we do the help church happen on any given Sunday have very little impact. Sure, Cody has an impact. Sure, the person leading worship has an impact. But sometimes we can feel like our contribution gets lost, that it isn’t that important because nobody went home saying, “The communion was prepared in a really impactful way today.”
Yet, the amazing thing about our God is that He is a master of taking small things and changing lives with those. Listen to the words of Jesus in Matthew 17:20, ““I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” God can take even the smallest of actions, the mustard seed of faith, and move mountains with it.
Thank you for serving at our church this week. It may feel like a small thing to you. It may feel like you’re not making a difference. But God takes the small things you do, done in faith and with joy, and can use them to transform someone’s life, to move mountains. Thank you for doing the small things this Sunday. Thank you for doing them with faith and joy and trusting in the God that uses mustard seeds to overcome mountains!
