How do we worship God? We call singing “worship”, and it certainly is! But is that all worship is? Is that even primarily what it is?
Listen to how the apostle Paul describes worship in Romans 12:1, “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”
Here, Paul describes worship as giving our bodies to God and as letting our bodies be a living and holy sacrifice. Worship in the OT was directly tied to animal sacrifices. Sacrificing as an act of worshiping God was something the Jewish people did all of the time. Paul simply takes that idea and says, “Now, instead of animals, give yourself.”
Singing praise songs is certainly a way we worship. But true worship is so much bigger than that. True worship is taking our life and giving it to God and saying, “Do with this what you will. I trust you.”
Thank you so much for volunteering at our church. Thank you for sacrificing for God’s kingdom here at FCC. Your singing might be interrupted by your volunteering this week. But your worship won’t be. Your worship will be the loudest!
